John Dirks Jr
1956 ranch style house built on a slab. In the attic was insulation material I've not seen before. It looked like finely ground organic matter of some type. What is it? Click to Enlarge 64.91 KB Click to Enlarge 74.4 KB

John Dirks Jr
Thanks Bill. BTW, what was a common thickness of this stuff. In this house it was 2-3 inches.
Robert Jones
That's about the depth that I see with that stuff John. On a side note, Bill have you ever had a client test this stuff to determine if asbestos was actually present?
John Kogel
I've tried to burn that stuff - no way, at least not the samples I've taken. I just call it shredded wood insulation. There'd be no reason to add asbestos. It is a fireproofed wood product.
John Dirks Jr
I hope the stuff is fireproof since the attic was loaded with electrical issues. Here's just a scratch of the surface. Robert Jones
Damn I mis-spoke with my question sorry about that Bill. I realize now that it was coated with a fire retardant. [:-paperba
