AHI in AR Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 I did a house out in the sticks today chock full of goofy things like a dry-stacked CMU foundation totally devoid of any mortar! But my question is what the device that the guy used to tap into the 4" line is SUPPOSED to be used for. For the life of me I can't see how using these things saved any installation time. All drains used them, and all leaked. Then again, so did all the other fittings. Apparently primer and PVC cement were too costly. Click to Enlarge 38.09 KB
gtblum Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 I have a saddle connection like that from a new PVC vent to an existing ABS vertical plumbing vent. It was about ease and access. It's also connected just under the roof. Can't imagine anyone using one of those for any other purpose, though.
allseason Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 It's a saddle fitting. Not allowed in most places, they leak.
Jim Baird Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Give 'em a C for creativity. Likely added to an existing line? I guess there are plenty of "shade tree" plumbers too.
Tom Raymond Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I found one Monday. It was primed and glued, with hose clamps for good measure.
