WILLIE Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Has anybody tried placing signs in front of houses? Such as "This Property Inspected by ABC Inspections"?
hausdok Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Hi Willie, It seems to me that either Chris Prickett or Scott Swarga once related how he does that in conjunction with new home inspections. OT - OF!!! Mike
swarga Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Chris and I both place signs (with permission) in front of houses we inspect less than one year old. I leave the sign up for a week. He gets a better response than I do but I get between 2 & 4 calls per sign.
Paul MacLean Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 An Austin inspection outfit, used to place small yard signs after every inspection, but I haven't seen any in the last couple of years. He would leave them until they got carried away. Don't know how much good it did, but this was the same guy who, many years ago, put Realtor cards in a hat for a free trip to Cancun with every referral. Don't know how well that went either, but the ethics sure stink.
chrisprickett Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Yeah, I do it. I use a sign that is similar to a real estate sign, and leave it up for a week or less (I have two). I only do it on warranty inspections. I think (hard to tell, because I combine it with other marketing) it gets me about 50-60 inspections a year. I see no ethics issue with it, whatsoever. I don't see how you could really do it on resales, without pissing people off.
Paul MacLean Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Willie, Bad ethics is sending a Realtor to Cancun, not planting a sign. Go for it!
chrisprickett Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Paul, I thought that's what you meant, I was just clarifying[:-apple]
kurt Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I think the sign on a warranty inspection is a very smart marketing tool; nothing unethical about it. It just plain wouldn't work on resale inspections, at least not in my market.
WILLIE Posted January 19, 2004 Author Report Posted January 19, 2004 I was thinking about when and IF a client closed on the house. Then they would let me place a sign in front of the house, the same as a realtor putting up a "SOLD" sign.
wilsonsinspection Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Make sure to check the local laws about putting up signs. I was fined almost $1000 plus court costs for putting them up in front of two houses! Quick lesson learned.
