Larry Nestell Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Can a return air duct for a heat pump/air handler be placed inside of a laundry closet with a Door? I can't imagine it can, but I need to ask. The temp differential would significantly drop. Is this wrong? The compressor is located on the roof and not yet connected to the electrical disconnect, so the unit was not tested for function. This is in a Condo
Ben H Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 When the door is shut, is the return basically closed off? Solid door? Is it the only return in the house?
Larry Nestell Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 The door shuts tight and yes, this is the only return in the apartment/condo.
Larry Nestell Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 It seams to me that the return/Heat pump was put in backwards. There was no access to the air-handler/heat-pump
Bain Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Is there a grille in the door? If so, it's probably okay, but not the most efficient configuration. If there isn't a grille in the door, the installer either forgot, or hasn't put it in yet.
Larry Nestell Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 There is no grill on the door, I mentioned that at minimum a grill needed to be added. A large grill!!
Erby Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 I've seen some of those here in condos with the heat pump located in the laundry room with a tight door. Though there was always a return grill in the laundry room wall behind the unit (hidden behind the front door) Are you sure there isn't a grill in the wall of the laundry room somewhere? -
