Terence McCann Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Along one wall you can see water stains coming out where the vinyl siding is. On the inside of this wall are two bedrooms and one bath with tub/shower. Any thoughts on cause? Click to Enlarge 35.22 KB
Robert Jones Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Did you run the water in the bath shower/tub and then go back out and look to see if it is current?
Ben H Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Draining water from backside of the vinyl? Was it just in this one spot?
John Kogel Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 The question is whether the moisture is on the surface of the house wrap or coming from the inner side of the house wrap, (or the 3rd possibility, no house wrap).
Erby Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Mine was a little easier to diagnose. It was the bathtub water supply leaking. The supply was at the far end of the tub from the exterior wall but this was the only place the leak showed up. Just another reason to (at least) walk the exterior AFTER you've finished the inside. Phillip Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 I have found a few that the drain line from the tubs was leaking and where the shower pan was leaking. Like Erby said walk the outside again after running the water.
Phillip Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Here is a photo where the shower was leaking into the garage Click to Enlarge 32.45 KB

Terence McCann Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Sorry for not getting back sooner - was out of town with limited net access. The stains/drip marks went the entire lenght of the wall which was apporx. 40 feet or so. No ac/line set located on this side of the home.
Tom Raymond Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 It's crappy detailing and cheap vinyl. Did you pop a seam and see of there was a WRB under it?

I did however recommend that a siding guy unzips some of the siding on this wall a takes a look-see at what's going on.
