Mark P Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 the part of a circuit breaker you move to turn the power on/off? Switch, handle, lever...
Chad Fabry Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 I call it a toggle. Marc probably calls it an "operator". Blum calls it the "thingy".
Mark P Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 I'm just trying to figure out how to say the two sides of this main breaker need to be connected. Maybe that is good enough. Download Attachment: 20110607_29.JPG 1482.86 KB
fyrmnk Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Breaker tie or tie for the breakers is how I've always referenced them. Can't say for certain it's a technically correct name though but it always has gotten the point across.
John Kogel Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 "A breaker tie-bar is needed" avoids the difficult handle question. [] Wow, I just looked at the pic. Yes those 100 amp main handles certainly need a tie bar (handle tie).
Douglas Hansen Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 "Handle tie" is the term you find in the NEC [240.15(B)].
Mark P Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 Thank you Mr. Hansen, so I guess that makes them "Handles" and not switches or levers. Funny how trying to find the proper name for something I see every day, can make my head itch.
Tom Raymond Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Just steal one from the 30s below it. That'll fix it[]
gtblum Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Thank you Mr. Hansen, so I guess that makes them "Handles" and not switches or levers. Funny how trying to find the proper name for something I see every day, can make my head itch. Yeah, well, they're still "thingys" to me.
