John Dirks Jr Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 I had a Southern Flying Squirrel on my back porch last night. They're not that rare but not seen often and this is the first time in my life I've ever seen one live. Unlike other squirrels, they're nocturnal. gtblum Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Cool - So how'd it taste? I want to know how he knew it was southern. Did it have a drawl and a number 3 tattooed on it's arm?[]
hausdok Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 I found a whole nest of those critters in an old powder house in my hometown in Dutchess County, NY when I was a teenager. Folks thought I was nuts when I told 'em what I'd found 'cuz nobody around those parts had ever seen one. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

Tom Raymond Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Never got that close to one either, but I have seen the mess they make. There is a ski resort not far from here with lots of cathedral ceilinged vacation homes. The little bastards love to get under the ridge vents.
hausdok Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Someone help an old not-so-worldly guy understand the #3 tatoo reference please. OT- OF!!! M.
hausdok Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Ooooooo.....K Not a NASCAR fan. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

John Dirks Jr Posted May 21, 2011 Author Report Posted May 21, 2011 It was about the size of a chipmunk. At first I thought it was one but then I saw the tail and the lack of stripes on the back. This little critter stood still while I got to within 2 or 3 feet of it. I went inside and came back out 5 mins later and it was gone. I'm glad it hung around long enough for me to grab my camera.
