David Meiland Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 A contact of mine owns a typical brownstone in Brooklyn, NY, about 16' x 50' deep, three stories. There is what New Yorkers seem to call an "extension" on the rear of the first story, an addition that's about 10' deep. The roof serves as a balcony accessible from the second floor, and is apparently a concrete slab with tile over it.... and you guessed it, the joint between the masonry wall and the tile/slab leaks into the interior (although I'm not convinced yet that the leak doesn't come from higher up somewhere). Attempts have been made to repair this and have apparently failed. My contact reports that this sort of problem exists in a lot of similar homes in the area. Any of you guys work Brooklyn?
