Jim Katen Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 The separation with the frieze and crown, between the clapboards and the shakes. Is that considered to also be a cornice, or is there another name because of where it's located? Around here, the regional term is "belly band," or, simply, "band trim." If it were lower, at the level of the first floor, we'd call it the "water table." Might be different in your area.
kurt Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Horizontal Band Trim and Water Table is what we use around here. Although, I only use Water Table when it's masonry. I don't know why.
Bill Kibbel Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 The correct architectural term is simply "band" or "band moulding". If it were of masonry, it's a belt course.
Marc Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Good. I was about to ask if they were joking about 'Water Table'. Still hard to tell when they're joking sometimes. Marc
