hausdok Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 What goes round, comes around. Apparently, the new emphasis on green building has caused a resurgence in thatched roofing in Europe. Read all about it here
John Kogel Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Apparently. this master thatcher does ok thatching roofs in the US and Canada. I don't suspect he has much competition. http://www.thatching.com/mcghee.html It's not the kind of work you'd want to hand off to a group of amateurs. Imagine trying to find a leak in that haystack? gtblum Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Quite a few years ago, I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in some time. When I asked what he'd been doing, he shocked me by saying he had been on the road doing thatched roofs. Really? You're kidding, right? I don't know if this was the guy he worked for or if he worked on this roof, but this place is about five miles from my house. Another friend owns the fair. http://www.thatching.com/sterling.shtml

I've hoisted a few with this same master thatcher at a bar/restaurant where he installed the roof a few years back. The bar was named after him.http://thatchermcghees.com/
