Darren Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I got vapor lock; what do we call this leaning tower? Click to Enlarge 52.2 KB
fyrmnk Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Never seen one around here. I'd probably call it a "roof ornament" or "ornamental structure attached to the roof" if I did.
Tim Maxwell Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Looks like that thing was built leaning. Francis Ford Cupola.
Tom Raymond Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 It more closely resembles a steeple than a cupola. Whoever built it needs lots more practice.
fyrmnk Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Cupola of crap? [:-slaphap Learn something new everyday
Bill Kibbel Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Lots of folks call that type of structure a cupola, but they're not correct. If I were to speak of it as a cupola, I would use air quotes. A cupola is either a round or octagonal temple-like structure, topped with a dome. In the 19th century the new fancy round barn ventilators were being termed cupolas, then the raised look-out portions of train cabooses. Here's a picture I took of a real cupola on the Moravian Church in Bethlehem, PA. Click to Enlarge 54.94 KB
