ericwlewis Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I recently contracted some remodeling work for a loyal customer that had purchased a "new" home. They had it inspected (yeah) but they did not know I was a home inspector (aww). Well, during the course of my remodeling duties in the attic I came across this little jewel "hiding" in the attic. mgbinspect Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 (almost as hard to miss as that flying rafter or floor joist in the forefront of the last picture and the badly notched rafter?... Busy photo...)
AHI in AR Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Good pics. I think all of us with much time inspecting have seen similar issues with remodeling projects. It would appear that someone else is always expected to go back later and extend the vent through the roof. I saw a similar issue in an almost new home that hadn't been remodeled but was apparently the victim of a design change during construction. The seller stubbornly refused to fix it, stating that it "met the code when built since it passed all inspections" during construction.
ericwlewis Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 (almost as hard to miss as that flying rafter or floor joist in the forefront of the last picture and the badly notched rafter?... Busy photo...) 1000 words?
Brandon Whitmore Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Eric, It wouldn't be a real shocker if some crappy inspector missed this stuff. Having said that, have you seen the actual inspection report?
