John Dirks Jr Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 These are galvanized vented dormer like things. What is their official name? Click to Enlarge 52.28 KB Click to Enlarge 55.54 KB
Bill Kibbel Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 If it were for a window, it would be a "hooded dormer", sometimes "bonneted dormer" way up North. With a vent installed, I would call it a hooded vent dormer.
John Dirks Jr Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks Bill. I wasn't far off. In the report I called it a dormer vent.
John Dirks Jr Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Here's a nice chimney crown shot from the same house. Look, they put a brand new cap on but ignored the failed crown. Click to Enlarge 47.69 KB Click to Enlarge 51.06 KB
Ben H Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 What is the purpose of those vents? I mean, why not use regular roof vents? Architectural?
Rob Amaral Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 In Boston, it would be a 'ventid dormah"..
Tom Raymond Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 It' damned close to being scrap metal.
hausdok Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I've heard them called "eyebrow" vents. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Bill Kibbel Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 It's not the shape for an eyebrow vent. Just like eyebrow dormers, it'd be shaped like an eyebrow.
