Bill Kibbel Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 That's disturbing! Limestone doesn't make for a good chimney cap.
hausdok Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Certainly not very respectful of the dead. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
John Kogel Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Is that Hatfield-McCoy country by any chance? I can't imagine a builder doing that to just anybody's gravestone, but as a cruel joke, family feud, well maybe.
Brandon Whitmore Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Assuming that was a gravestone at one time, that's extremely disrespectful.
charlieb Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word.
gtblum Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word. I did but, that was after I thought what Katen wrote. LOL! Check this out. It's in a cemetery near a school I worked on a few years ago. Click to Enlarge 72.9 KB
charlieb Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Can you imagine the condition of the burial vault!
Greg Booth Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Can you imagine the condition of the burial vault! ......no vaults in those days-just wooden boxes.
ghentjr Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 You might just mail the picture to the local law.
Ben H Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I have now seen it all. Tim, mind if I borrow these pics?
Erby Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I'd bet it was a headstone with a mistake on it reused in another way. Notice, it's only half the stone.
emalernee Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 So was there a body in the chimney? No, just ashes.
Brandon Whitmore Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word That's why I wrote my post the way that I did. No, just ashes. LOL, Good thing I was in between sips of tea while reading this.......
Tim H Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 I have now seen it all. Tim, mind if I borrow these pics? No problem.
Tim H Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 I'd bet it was a headstone with a mistake on it reused in another way. Notice, it's only half the stone. That could be the case, Erby. It looks like a double marker for husband and wife, where the last name was centered at the top, so it could have been split for any number of reasons. It also looks like a war era marker, but the 'CSA' would have been centered on the bottom. I hope you are right, and that Thomas' earthly remains are resting under a well tended marker. It's the least one should hope for. Tim
