Has anyone considered the fact the stone could be the result of a carver's mistake? A simple misspelled word.

I did but, that was after I thought what Katen wrote. LOL!

Check this out. It's in a cemetery near a school I worked on a few years ago.

I'd bet it was a headstone with a mistake on it reused in another way. Notice, it's only half the stone.

That could be the case, Erby. It looks like a double marker for husband and wife, where the last name was centered at the top, so it could have been split for any number of reasons. It also looks like a war era marker, but the 'CSA' would have been centered on the bottom.

I hope you are right, and that Thomas' earthly remains are resting under a well tended marker. It's the least one should hope for.
