Star Trek's Universal Translator is here...almost.

I thought this was fake when I first saw it, and so did many others, but it's the real deal.

It's only available, for now, in Spanish-English and English-Spanish and you need a I-phone 3GS or 4. Evidently it's only for relatively simple signs and even then some of the translations can be hilariously wrong...but it does work.

I tried the free demo on my iPhone 3. It reverses the spelling of letters, or 'erases' them. Pretty nifty utilization of technology. Given the restrticted computing power of the iPhone it's impressive. Might be willing to try the translation software if the planning for the trip to spain continues!
