Robert Jones Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Is there a technical term for this design/style of roof? Geo Dome? Click to Enlarge 60.32 KB Click to Enlarge 67.22 KB
Ben H Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Chrysler... Awesome. I actually laughed out loud.
mgbinspect Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Kinda sad, we're so subconsciously commercialized... definitely a roof line I wouldn't have... It's a hip roof style on steroids.
Robert Jones Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 I was fully anticipating a leak somewhere, nada. The upstairs bedroom(s) could be used as an IMAX theater.
John Kogel Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 That's a "hip" roof, alright. I wonder if it started life covered with cedar shakes? If it did, there was a long history of leaks, no doubt. Somebody did an impressive job putting that roof on. The one thing I don't see is ventilation for the roof cavities. That design doesn't allow for venting. You'd have to install a vent in every panel.
AHI in AR Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 It's the bastard child of a geodesic dome and a traveling barn salesman.
John Dirks Jr Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Those are the shapes that house satellite dishes. Must be a spy living in that house.
Bill Kibbel Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The roof is a polyhedron, made up of pentagonal dipyramids, with cross-gambrels. I didn't make that up.
Bain Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The roof is a polyhedron, made up of pentagonal dipyramids, with cross-gambrels. I didn't make that up. You should be ashamed of yourself for knowing that. No one is supposed to know that.

I believe that actually is some form of welcome symbol for the satanic... [:-hspin]
Robert Jones Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 Holy crap Bill. And here I was gonna put Geodesicish as the style.
Marc Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The roof is a polyhedron, made up of pentagonal dipyramids, with cross-gambrels. I didn't make that up. Dodecahedron, to be more specific...with the cross gambrels...whatever that is. I didn't make it up either. Just playin' Bill. You the man. Marc
Bill Kibbel Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Dodecahedron, to be more specific... A dodecahedron would be sphere-like, composed of 12 flat pentagonal faces. Remember the paperweight calendars?
Bill Kibbel Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Holy crap Bill. And here I was gonna put Geodesicish as the style. Geodesic-ish - I like that better for reporting. I was just showin' off. It's pretty hard to put a geodesic-ish roof on that doesn't leak.
kurt Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I'm with Maxwell.....it needs pressure washing.
Brandon Whitmore Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I thought those roofs only appeared in Texas.
Richard Moore Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The roof is a polyhedron, made up of pentagonal dipyramids, with cross-gambrels. I didn't make that up. You should be ashamed of yourself for knowing that. No one is supposed to know that. Our Mr. Kibbel is multifaceted. Ooooh, wait a minute...[:-idea]

Whitco Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 That is one strange looking roof. Very odd... And yes the roof needs a good cleaning...
