John Dirks Jr Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Check out this old stove. It's the biggest one I've ever seen in a house. I wanted to just examine it and forget about the inspection all together. Click to Enlarge 41.44 KB Click to Enlarge 39.23 KB
Bill Kibbel Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 It wasn't manufactured for residential use. Hutchinson Bros made coal ranges for hotels and ships.
John Dirks Jr Posted October 24, 2010 Author Report Posted October 24, 2010 It wasn't manufactured for residential use. Hutchinson Bros made coal ranges for hotels and ships. Interesting. The house was built in '56 and I saw no way they could have gotten this thing in after the original construction. They must have put it in and built around it. The chimney had three liners. Fireplace, oil burner, and this stove. Obviously, the chimney got written up for various things. Click to Enlarge 53.75 KB

I have long hoped that one day I'd stumble on an old residential coal or wood fired cooking stove. I've never seen one still in place, only in salvage yards. Got any pics I can show folks?
Mark P Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I think I'll get one for my wife - maybe she'll stop her complaining!
Brandon Whitmore Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I've never seen one still in place, only in salvage yards. The next time I'm up at our cabin (7 hour drive away), I'll snap some pictures for you (wood burner).
Ben H Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I think I'll get one for my wife - maybe she'll stop her complaining! Ha, good luck with that![:-bonc01]
Tom Raymond Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I think I'll get one for my wife - maybe she'll stop her complaining! I've got an old Iroquois gas range from around 1920 that I'd be willing to part with. The 1940 Roper Scientific in my kitchen isn't going anywhere though.
