Current State of VoIP

Recommended Posts

I'm fixing to get new phone service, internet, etc..

Specifically I'm looking at the Ooma Telo box (VoIP) from Costco for my phone and fax.

I'm concerned about dropped calls, voice quality, etc. if I switch to VoIP.

Anybody have success stories? Horror stories? Things I need to aware of when switching and using VoIP?

I've been using Vonage for the past 6-7 years with no issues.

Albeit my internet service is from Verizon FIOS ... "smoking fast" fiber optics.

Helps to have the bandwidth.

When I first signed on with Vonage I had two separate lines from them as one was for a company I was consulting for while doing HIs.

The internet service was basic DSL and still no problems with the Vonage VOIP service.

I think that smokin' fast internet is important to the success of a voip system. If you've got single connection servicing a network with teenager using it for online gaming, the voip ain't going to work so well.
