hausdok Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Hi All, Had a hot water system yesterday that used a Burnham boiler. I've never seen one of these before - Buderus seems to be popular here though. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how Burnham codes the year of manufacture. This unit was a Model PXG-200417-WNI, serial# 01-010070. The ANSI standard cited on the tag was 1983, so I'm guessing it is around 1985 to 1987, which would be consistent with the remodeling done on the home. I'd appreciate any tips on reading these in the future. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
dlee Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 Mike, given that cast iron boilers last 30-50 years or so, I don't worry about precise years of mfr like I do with fussier equipment. I just do approximates, like "over 25 years old and in the middle third of its normal life." -David Lee in VA
kurt Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 I see a few dozen Burnham boilers annually; I always use the ANSI date & add a couple years. Burnham has maintained a practice of having nearly indecipherable serial # sequence(s), & I got tired of trying to decipher them. They are a good quality component, albeit old fashioned, technology.
