Ben H Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 This flex line feeds a "vent free" gas fireplace. Just doesn't seem to safe where some idiot could throw pavers around next to it.[] Is this type of connection allowed? Click to Enlarge 72.9 KB
Erby Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Best bet is to contact the gas supplier and see what they say. Local code guys don't seem to know much about gas lines and refer to the gas provider (propane or natural). -
Jim Katen Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 That's a common installation method for propane. I prefer epoxy coated steel risers. I've mentioned before about my neighbor who had a copper line like that. Her dog chewed through it and she lost an entire tank of propane.
Tom Raymond Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 That sure looks like a propane rig to me. I don't like 'em, but almost every one of them looks like that around here. I remember some discussion about that type of line not being allowed (can't remember specifics), but every propane supplier I've ever come across hooks 'em up like this. Utility provider rules are trump.
Brandon Whitmore Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 While it is a typical installation, I would just throw a recommendation in the report to protect the exposed portion of pipe.
Chad Fabry Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 It's common. I always paint a picture that includes a riding mower or a weed whacker to describe the potential for disaster
