fyrmnk Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Hi all. On an inspection today, I found this outdoor unit with obvious corrosion/deterioration on one corner. The unit is a 10 y/o Lennox. The fins in the discolored area were very brittle and turned to dust when touched. The tubes were green with corrosion. An above ground swimming pool is about 15' away. I would guess a chemical has been spilled on it at some point. I couldn't operate it due to exterior temps. and assume it will need replaced and referred to HVAC tech. Any ideas as to cause of this or is the chemical thing likely??? Thanks in advance. Download Attachment: DSC00067.JPG 158.07 KB
Brian G Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Wow, very strange. Never seen anything like that before. Capt'n's guess ain't bad, but who the heck knows? Brian G.
Bill Kibbel Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Canis Urina (Doggy Tinkle) The uric acid dissolves the fins rapidly. If you haven't seen this before, just wait, you will. This ain't a few bent fins. It needs replacement.
Brian G Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 What a great way to get even with that no-good neighbor that will never bring your shovel back. Just quietly wander over after dark every night..... [] Brian G. And Have a Few Cold Ones First [:-snorkel
kurt Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Yup. Dog pee. It might have been pool chemical, but it would take a pretty heavy concentrated dose to do that.
kevin846 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Thats a close second to a fire hydrant. My money is on the dog piss.

Bruce Thomas Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Kevin, Did you wash your hands after you touched it and it turned to dust? Bruce [:-yuck]
