randynavarro Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 SFD Inspection. Everyone shows up including friends - 6 people. Inspect the bathrooms. One of 'em has a strong sewage odor. O.K. I says - guess I'll just come back in a little bit, see if the airs cleared out. I haven't seen anyone use the facilities, but maybe they had when I wasn't looking. Come back later - still pretty strong. Do you ask everyone if one of them just used the loo (bathroom in Europe) or do you write it up as a potential sewage gas / DWV issue? Holdin' my breath . . .
Jim Morrison Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Hey Randy, Bathroom aromas are transient by nature. I'd tell 'em to come back later and take another nostril-full. If the smell is still noticeable, call a plumber.
chrisprickett Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Was the house unoccupied? Sometimes the traps dry out and let in sewer gases. Flush and run all fixtures and check again in 1/2 hour.
Konrad Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Yeah, I'm gonna guess a dried out trap as well. I'm trying to sell my old house right now, and I go over there about once a week just to run the water a little bit in each fixture, including the toities. (edit: by the way, what is "SFD" ?)

randynavarro Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 SFD = Single Family Dwelling. Sorry, thought it was a common term. Oh, the creative geniuses you's all are.
