Goodhome Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 From time to time I come across a service panel that is completely surrounded by fiber glass insulation. At first glance, by intuition tells me this is not right. Is this ok? Any thoughts? Please advise, Thanks Sean
Marc Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 There's not a problem with that. It's often the case with NEMA 1 or 'interior' panelboards. I assume that you actually meant to say only 5 of the 6 sides are insulated. The 6th is the access cover and heat generated by the components and conductors within can escape through it. Marc
Richard Moore Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 No issue as I far as I can see. They are, after all, allowed to be mounted on and between combustible wood studs. The deadfront can still radiate and dissipate heat if that is what you are concerned about. This is assuming you don't really mean "completely surrounded"...which would be weird!
Goodhome Posted August 11, 2010 Author Report Posted August 11, 2010 Thanks for the info... BTW - yes, I meant that the service panel was surrounded by insulation with the exception of directly in front. Good attention to detail, [:-magnify
