qhinspect Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 If the electrical panel is grounded to the water pipe before the water meter, is a grounding jumper wire still needed at the water meter? And if so, why? 8 wire for a 100 amp breaker box. 6 wire for a 200 amp breaker box.
Jim Morrison Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Yes, because other systems like the telephone or cable TV may be bonded to the water pipe after the meter and the jumper cable ensures a continuous path to ground.
chrisprickett Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Also, so there is still a continuous path if the meter is removed for repair.
kurt Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 And, all the meters in Chicago are being changed out w/ plastic models.
