John Kogel Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 A deranged mind might figure this out pretty quick. I'l post the original shortly. Deranged or drained? Were there mushrooms in the crawl? I've never seen anything like that in my pictures. []
Jim Katen Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 The upper third of the image reminds me of bark mulch. I have no idea about the rest.
Marc Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 The lower part of the image resembles the view into the open end of a pipe. The black line suggests that the 'pipe' is level. Marc
kurt Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Undersized plumbing vent with messed up boot. [:-?help]
Terence McCann Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Folks use to see this a lot in the '60s. I am the Walrus - koo koo kachoo. The outer material looks like OSB that has rotted out.
Mike Lamb Posted August 4, 2010 Author Report Posted August 4, 2010 It's a jazzed view of a chimney flue from the clean-out. The water heater vent is jammed in there pretty good. This is the photo my client got, not the LSD one. Click to Enlarge 58.5 KB

Terence McCann Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 What made you look in there Mike? Water heater not venting correctly?
Mike Lamb Posted August 5, 2010 Author Report Posted August 5, 2010 I always look up the clean-outs with a mirror and a flashlight if I can. This chimney had a newer 80% AFUE furnace and should have gotten a new liner installed anyway.

I figure that about the time I'm ready to check out I'll have it all down pat.
