rlottig Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I inspected a townhome today that was built in 1985. The electrical panel was in the half bathroom on the first floor. I know they are not allowed in a bathroom now, but was this okay in 1985?
Jim Katen Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I inspected a townhome today that was built in 1985. The electrical panel was in the half bathroom on the first floor. I know they are not allowed in a bathroom now, but was this okay in 1985? It might have been. The earliest prohibition on breakers in bathrooms was in the 1993 NEC. At least, if there was an earlier prohibition, I can't find it. I'm looking at 240.24(e) - Jim Katen, Oregon
rlottig Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 I can't find anything earlier than that either. Thanks for the response,
waynesoper Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Did it have a mirror on the front of it? I think there was something in the code about, If you provide a mirror and toothbrush holder on the door of the electrical panel it conforms to code[:-bigeyes
John Dirks Jr Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 At least, you wouldn't expect as much exposure to moisture in a half bath since there's no shower.
robert1966 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 I agree with the 1993 requirements, at least that is all I find. If you find anything different, please post it for us.
