  1. The cable is going to move around and the sheathing is going to wear causing damge to the conductor insulation leading to a fire hazard.
  2. A radon system whether in use or partially installed has to be labeled so that no one installs drainage on it. Pull the putty and look in to see what's inside.
  3. I need a lead paint testing company in Northern NJ asap for a client. I've used A Molly Company in the distant past and most people seemed pleased. Thanks in advance.
  4. Aren't they making copper-impregnated shingles now for this? From what I've heard that lasts about 5-10 years, just when the gleocapsa presents itself, along with the rest of the growth. Don't count on it.
  5. I'm putting new shingles on my roof next spring and I'm going to install the zinc strips. I have now, after 22 years, all kinds of gleocapsa staining, lichen and moss growth on the northeast side, but not under the galvanized plumbing vent pipes on that side. The zinc coating on the pipes is definately making a difference. Even if the strips look funky it'll better than the organic growth.
  6. Is it okay for the pigtailed neutrals on AFCI & GFCI breakers to be pulled straight eliminating the coiling? I seem to remember a question on the NHI test where the correct answer was that a GFCI needed a coil at the neutral.
  7. It does make good kindling if not primed and your split it into long thin pieces.
  8. If the pin in the center of the column is not welded it can be knocked out with a hammer and now you have no support. How is that permanent?
  9. Have you contacted your client? That's who you work for.
  10. Jim's right. Certainteed makes the same type of siding and caulking of the butt joints is not recommended, unless the local building authority demands it. The flashing detail is the fix if not already in place.
  11. Any test buttons? Labels?
  12. The gutter joint on the inside corner near the door is leaking causing the arched stained area below it. Likely the water is pulling the natural oils out of the cedar and turning it grey before the rest of the siding.
  13. Thanks Mike, that's what I had also referred to.
  14. What is the correct height above grade at the exterior for the vent on a direct vent gas fireplace, am I correct at 12"?
  15. What about a step installed under the window?
  16. Thanks Bill.
  17. Recent inspection, one of the granite countertops on a peninsula is mounted on a 12" cabinet box and has a 12" overhang. I commonly recommend support/brackets under these but there are doors under the overhang, making the choice one or the other, doors or brackets. My worst case scenario is that people will sometimes sit on the counters. General consensus please. Click to Enlarge 50.6 KB
  18. Is supplying a toilet with hot water allowable? Does it sound like a bad idea? This is in a single family and it's in a basement bathroom. No heat in the bathroom but the adjoining room is heated.
  19. I concur.
  20. What you pay for is placement on the page, the same as google or any other search. Again, I don't intend to pay them 3K plus as I know it won't generate that much income let alone the additional needed to actually benefit.
  21. www.yelp.com Look yourself up and update your page. That much is free.
  22. I don't intend to spend the money, just want to know if anyone gets any feedback from yelp, etc. I agree that the money may be better spent. I'll give only $2.50 as no one in NJ is going to hear much from Kentucky.
  23. What's the general opinion of Yelp? Someone from there called me recently selling me on paid premier placement on their web site. The cheapest deal is over 3K a year.
  24. I couldn't get past the first page on the web site.
