  1. Turn off the main and check the reading again,To make sure its not a a phantom reading.
  2. Yeah, buttt....... There's probably not any lint building up in a furnace vent, just waiting to be ignited. At least I hope not. Theres not much of an issue with dryer lint building up and gluing itself to the inside of a heated piece of pvc on a furnace flue pipe.
  3. Im guessing theres lots of humidity in the crawl space which I wouldnt consider good for the internals of the furnace. But as long as theres enough air available for combustion I dont see it be a code issue,Although it does lower the efficiency rating of the furnace if it is using previously heated air for combustion.
  4. While I see why one would think it's a temp. sensor, it isn't. It's a flame rod-- google flame rectification if curious. The flame sensor doesnt come into play until after the burners light,It doesnt sound like the burners every light.
  5. What he said.
  6. My house has lead service. Any house built pre-mid 80's has lead service. I used to get cranked up about it. I've done a few hundred tests and never came up with any appreciable amount of lead, even when I'd let it sit overnight and take the first draw for my sample. I'm sure folks were getting nasty doses when the pipe was new. Older pipe, I'm not so sure it contributes anything. I'm not promoting lead pipe but we're in a good position to test the stuff and it never tests bad. Go figure. [:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu]
  7. Good way to create a power surge/smoke electronics in my book. I still come across an occasional panel with fused neutrals from back in the knob and tube days.
  8. Im going to call dow to the chief electrical inspector tomorrow and ask if he knows where our 10' rule originated,if it was based on anything in the Nec or not. Everybody Ive asked in the last few days says the same thing as me,Its just always been that way so everybody figures it has to have originated someplace.
  9. Thats been code around here since the beginning of time as maximum distance between meter base and panel based on unfused wire length. Ill check and see if I can find anything in the nec about a max distance.
  10. The type of meter really makes no differance,There should be a disconnect within 10' of the meter bank.
  11. When things are right, it needs only be done once every thirty years or so. So I take it youre not a fan of flushing/servicing boilers on a regular basis?
  12. Thats a good question,Can you follow the service coming out of each meter to see if theres disconnects someplace in the basement?[:-bigeyes
  13. Most fill valves that Ive installed on boilers have a pressure reducing valve plumbed in line with them from the factory. Ive got a hot water boiler to service tomorrow,Ill try and get a picture of it if I get over there tomorrow.
  14. Unless they're blue . . . I didnt say we dont use primer ,I said we dont use the nasty purple stuff for above ground work. We use clear primer for above ground plumbing work and furnace work. The one shot glue is also code, but it costs a lot more money.
  15. The blue glue is normally wet set cement,They do make one shot pvc cement that doesnt require primer also.
  16. The only place we are required to use purple primer is down in ditches on sewer work so the inspector can see its been primed . The only time you see purple primer above ground around here is from homeowners doing their own work,Or craigslist hack artists butchering things up from the back of a pickup truck. Ive never seen purple primer on a professional furnace install around here any way. Theres no differance between the 2 primers other than the nasty purple dye.[:-yuck]

  18. How do you know that primer wasnt used on the conections?
  19. Now thats funny!
  20. I set condensing units level,The compressor bolts flat to the base.
  21. My pump seized once. Blew it off until I tried a few months later; it worked. Shite happens. . . I gave them a chance to get a new pump and an access panel. They chose to buy the old POS as is and keep their agent happy. Clowns. How do they expect to access the gfi or plumbing if theres ever an issue?Theyll really get their feelings hurt when a plumber or electrician tells them he has to rip all the fancy ceramic tile off around the base to work on it,Oh well.

  23. [:-thumbu][:-thumbu] If it rolls way out and makes a big boom when it fires up start looking for a cracked heat exchanger.
  24. [:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu] Your inducer motor comes on 1st followed by the hot surface igniter before gas valve opens. Pull the hose from the inducer motor housing and try sucking on the end of hose to see if pressure switch is closing. If the pressure switch is closing hook it back up and check igniter. Be carefull pulling the igniter out,Look for a white line going across it. Thats usually a sign its cracked, unless you can see a giant chunk missing from it.
  25. A wye can be laid on its back or side,a san tee cant be though. I have no clue what the loop was about ,Unless theyre charging by the foot/fitting.[]
