Where it freezes, the vent diameter must be at least three inches to prevent frost closure.
I'm not bothered by the change in size and I couldn't find anything that prohibits it- if water is running down the pipe it flows from smaller to larger. What probably limits the size is the number of fixture units. If I'm right and that's 2-1/2 inch pipe, just 6 FU's are allowed. If it's 3-inch pipe 12 FU's are allowed and it's probably OK for any normal modest house.
All that said, it probably works fine.
Chad,
Probably should stick with the standard abbreviation D.F.U., well, cuz FU.

The soot stains are usually do to the incorrect ratio between the dimension of the fireplace opening to the dimension of the flue (or a really short chimney). Photo 4 shows some kind of restriction below the 4th tile down.

Get a second opinion from someone that doesn't sell flue liners.

For next week:

Your 4 points are a good start (except the software thing - wait and see what level you want to offer your clients first).
If I was in your state just getting started, I'd join CREIA and get with the folks at the local chapter meetings. There's a good chance you'd find experienced mentors and have access to several members for ride-alongs. Start reading their publications and follow each of their steps to full member status.

I haven't tried it, but it was suggested by the developer of my desktop resizer.

I have old notes about hardboard siding settlements that says USP stamped on smooth backing is Catawba by Georgia-Pacific.

Don't need any tool, just peek behind at vertical seams.

Our code only states something like "lighting shall be provided" in machine rooms.

Hopefully the vent connector is connected to a listed stainless steel flue liner inside the chimney.
The other issue I'd be concerned with is that with the drafting of air between the old flue and flue liner, the flue liner may not be staying warm enough for consistent adequate draft.

It could be. Hard to measure it on a photo.
You should have the pitch gauge app on your phone. You can use it to snap a pic of the slope and add it to the report.

It looks like ceramic fiber insulation - for industrial furnaces, boiler linings, kilns. Maybe Kaowoo or Unitherm.

I've had 2 ranges with receptacles built in.

Aw crap.

Single-walled "stovepipe" is only for connecting an appliance to a chimney, if that's what is being installed. They need to show that the pipe is labelled/listed under the UL 1777 standard, for use as a solid-fuel flue liner.

Pics are front & back. Happened down in Warrington today.Bill, They are two different houses in the same development? I assume gypsum shalfwall liners, but I don't see them. Maybe no bracing along the party walls.
Nothing I'm involved with. Someone local sent me the pics for my amusement. I'd refer you for the post-mortem, Mark.

Mike Brown of Inspect Express also has "Picture Drop" for Word. I've never tried it, but it looks like it might do what you need and much more.

He's saying it needs an SS liner instead of stovepipe as a liner.
I've found that every sweep now says that all flues need to be immediately relined or the chimney needs to be torn down and rebuilt - or the house will burn down. Some even say that if you don't do it, they'll report it to the fire marshal and your house will be condemned.

Anyone here a member or attend their meetings?
I was just asked if I'm speaking at the next February meeting or was if it was this past February. Problem is, no one has asked me to be there for either date. I'm not losing my marbles yet so, I asked where this info came from and was sent the attached PDF.
Is there a Kibbel impersonator?
