  3. Click to Enlarge 38.28 KB Hello I ran into this today and have not seen this type of installation before. The exhaust flue and intake pipe appear to be sharing the same pipe and join together right before they meet the exterior wall. Typically I see the two pipes exiting the wall separately. Is there any case where this is allowed. To me it simply seems that the exhaust gases are being recycled back into the furnace for the combustion air. It is a carrier weathermaker 60000 btu furnace model 58MVP060-14. Thanks.
  4. I think allseason is right on with this, it's not passing the buck in my opinion at all. Alot of Inspectors on this forum are very well versed in a lot of the trades, and informing your client of all you know is great. However are we expected to be engineers, electricians, framers ....etc. I don't think so and if Im expected to be, my price will be going up exponentially. Yea home inspections schools are teaching people to be worried about liability, and why not? If students are reminded of whats at stake the good ones will make sure they know what there doing and the bad ones will fail in this business, and boo hoo for the buyer that didn't do there homework on there inspector. You have to remember that what most on this site expect a home inspector to know isn't whats required by any state that I know. And the states are the ones that set the bar, doesnt mean you have to like it but thats the way it is. If tests were harder and inspectors were required to know everything under the sun, I think about 90 percent of HI's would have never pursued the occupationin the first place.

  6. What are the best ways to seal this stuff in, as you can see in the pics there are some spots where it has peeled away over the years and those areas are likely friable.A spray paint possibly? My concern is when the heating or cooling is rolling up through ducts it might be creating a vacuum to where it is sucking the friable material into the duct and distributing the fibers throughout the entire house. These old heat ducts aren't exactly air tight, and show small gaps to where you can see the material from the inside of the duct. The ducts in the basement are new, it looks like the old ducts in the walls of this two story are the ones wrapped with this stuff. Are there any insertable sleeves that can be retrofitted into the ducts to seal them up tight? The duct runs look to be straight shots from the basement to the top floor, if that helps. No, there is no concern with the knob and tube the house was completely rewired in 2005.

  8. Mate is also a English or British term as well, considering Australia was once a territory of England I would say it was Originally British. However, could be vise versa for all I know. Hausdok sorry about the punctuation, I'll work on that.
  9. By the way mate, didnt realize you were british but wasn't it one of your own who stated "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" I beleive Isaac Newton if my memory serves me correctly. Why would there not be repercussions for Putting things in an unatural way into our atmosphere, whether it be tommorow or 1000 years from now?
  10. Greyboy, Friend, it is a question of perspective. Let’s look at your post – it tells me that you are a very decent fellow and I laud your concern forthe Earth, but a little perspective may be warranted. Each time you exhale, your exhalation breath contains about 40,000 parts of CO2 per million parts of air (40,000 ppm). You exhale about 12 times per minute. Your exhalation breath is about 500 ml of air. That means that every minute, as a matter of just living, you exhale about 450 mg of CO2 into the atmosphere. OK – now imagine that the 6,803,042,109 of our brothers and sisters across the globe are doing the same thing – just breathing. That means that every MINUTE the average loading to the Earth’s atmosphere, contributed by humans doing nothing more than just breathing is about 3,100 metric tons every MINUTE of every day. That’s over 184 THOUSAND METRIC TONNES per hour and that’s just from humans breathing. And you are concerned about “…pumping tons and tons of carbon into the air we breath…â€
  11. Who cares if its real or not, the fact is like so many others have stated its simply common sense to move away from polluting our environment. It is extrememly feasible to do so and is in our best interest in many ways. First and foremost, if not cutting down on pollution, cutting off our dependence on other countries, of which most hate us. If they have to falsify evidence to light a fire under countries as well as individuals asses than so be it. Even if your argument is right that climate change is false, its hard to believe that pumping tons and tons of carbon into the air we breath and depend on to live is a wise decision.
