  1. Keyword is manufactured. You can sell a 10 seer as long as it wasn't manufactured after 1/23/06 Captain
  2. The trick is don't pop-um yet. Familiarize yourself with the house both inside and out. Look carefully in the garage if you don't see a gfci in the garage watch out and if you see a freezer or refrigerator watch out. Make sure before you leave that house that both the refrigerator and freezer are on. As Jim said listen for the pop.
  3. No, but they are getting better. Down here almost all new homes are flex. Example they use to lay the flex on top of truss, then they hang it with sting, then string and insulation, then chair webbing, now cardboard and chair webbing. That took ten years can't wait for the next ten. Captain
  4. I have done a couple of them. I took a college class in mechanical engineer and one of the projects was to do a manual J on your own home. Now to the best of my recollection there was no imput for duct types. If, big if, flex ducts are installed properly there should be little difference between them and rigid duct if the R value is the same. Captain
  5. That panel enclosure is a replacement for the original panel. That could be a FUBAR panel. Captain
  6. In ASHI's backyard. http://www.suntimes.com/classifieds/hom ... 20.article
  7. Jimmy You put it more politically correct that me. But the results are the same. Captain
  8. IMHO it is because of ASHI's arrogance that NACHI has succeeded. And for that our profession is not better. Captain
  9. Mike I was not bashing I was just expressing how I feel. There are a lot of great inspectors that belong to ASHI and a lot of inspectors in ASHI that I do not wish to be associated. I have certain ethical beliefs that sometimes clouds my otherwise good logic. I guess it is the same reason I don't belong to any political party and haven't voted in 35 years. Captain If you are not a little whacked you not a good home inspector.
  10. I agree with Scott. I do not want to be associated with inspectors that can't inspect, inspectors whose client is the Realtor, inspectors who don't adhere to the SOP, and that's why I left ASHI. Captain
  11. You need to pass a competence test in order to delete your post. None needed to post. Captain
  12. Chad wrote "the next thing I know you have your hand in my pocket" What is he reaching for? Captain [:-censore
  13. Sacredgrooves I do not understand how you can be in this business around 27 years and get 90% of your business from Realtors. Why don't you get more referrals? Captain
  14. See how much you can learn and become certified at the same time. http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stori ... 858&EDATE= Captain
  15. Death Captain
  16. All of your 3 pronged receptacles (outlets) are not grounded. Have electrician ground them or replace with two pronged receptacles. It is dangerous to leave this uncorrected and could lead to death. Captain
  17. No that my opinion is better than the next. I have used pda, laptop, tablet computer, digatal recorder, paper, and tablet (no keyboard). Depending on your software if you can click with the stylus I say go with the tablet computer. I set up in the kitchen and go back to the kitchen to add comments. I found the pda a pain. Every time I took it out to make comment had to put it back. Sometimes I left it somewhere and had to go back and get it. Sometimes I make comment to quick without getting the whole picture. Correction on pda is a pain. If you do a tablet computer get extended warranty. Catain
  18. The problem I have is the picture on their business card does not match. I used to ask is that your sister or is that your daughter. I learner pretty quickly don't ask. Also if she looks pregnant don't congratulate her she may just be large. Captain
  19. Carl I don't like people marketing in forums not paying for it and disguising it. Take out an adv. Captain
  20. Carl It's all about money screw honesty. Captain
  21. Carl Great honest post. Captain
  22. They have two new cool features. You impute the outdoor and indoor ambient temperatures and indoors it will show you what areas are close to due point. The second thing is you can shoot the ceiling and it will tell you if you have the correct amount of insulation. $6750 and my wife will leave me. I told her it's a lot cheaper than it was... she walked away. Captain
  23. I went to a seminar given by Flir this morning and I didn't buy one. Two reasons for not buying, one is simple and that is they are coming out with new models in August and two I just can't seem to figure out as to where does this technology belongs in our profession. Theses cameras give you a lot of information and if you in return give it to your everyday home buyer it will confuse and confound them. I guess I'll just wait until I can find the right application or when my wife leaves me. Captain
  24. Jerry First off the black on white is to striking. Maybe use a light tan background. I don't like the use of all that red for emphasis.Kinda third grade. Way too much info on front page. Most buyers don't give a crap about ASHI, or understand deal killer. What is "most all of Norther Illinois" mean. Your picture is too dark. To much chest pounding. Think of all the clients you have and why did they use you. Good luck and please you asked. Captain
  25. Please note that I will not be held responsible for the death of anybody using the basement shower. Please move the shower or the electric panel. Captain
