  1. It is in 703.10 of the IRC... Does not specify James Hardy, just manufacturer.
  2. I bet it was from Prisim labs. http://www.pati-air.com/page/iaq-home-survey-main The device test for VOC's. It picks up all types of chemical compounds. I have used their test devices for about 3 years. They produce an indepth report that breaks down the findings and most common cause for what was found. It is an inexpensive option for folks who have a concern about the air quality in the home.. This is not a mold test, but it will tell you if you have active or live spores in the home. Great for folks that are sinsitive to their inviroment and need to know if their home has chemicals floating around in the air.
  3. The is the 160x120 image from the Flir E6 with MSR feature. This is a laundry room with a leak in the water supply. Click to Enlarge 16.33 KB Click to Enlarge 11.45 KB
  4. For EIFS, I use the IR cam on the interior of the home to quickly scan the areas I need to concentrate on when I work on the exterior. If I find nice cool areas on the inside chances are we have mulch for substrate!
  5. I just picked up the Flir E6 with their new MSR imaging feature. In this mode it outlines items in the photo and makes it easy to see what you are looking at. I like it so far and for $2,500 it is not a bad camera. Resolution is 160x120.
  6. With the knot, it looks like LP hardboard or MDF siding.
  7. ASHI took the stance in 2012 to support the photoelectric side. This is an article from the Reporter. http://www.ashireporter.org/HomeInspect ... Alarm/2606
  8. Looks like Woody damage...
  9. I do pretty much the same as Erby and I use Home Inspector Pro. No written notes, photos of the house and problems are used as my notes and I input the majority of them details onsite in my iPad that sits in the kitchen. Back at the office I load the photos and the as I view each photo I just select where it goes in the report from a drop drop down menu of the problems and I'm pretty much done. HG and HIP are similar in this aspect.
  10. I made one a few years back that I send when I think about it or if I'm pretty sure I'm dealing a clueless client and or agent. Feel free to use any part or none of it... Download Attachment: Its time for the Home Inspection.pdf 146.95?KB
  11. Erby, I like the framed tools. That is a good way of remembering you father.
  12. If it is the return the duct has been expanded in size to fit the unit.. Marc, no need to be so critical to fellow TIJ'ers.
  13. The color looks like dry wood termites.
  14. It's on my calendar! Denver Parrot has been after me to attend for awhile.
  15. When I used 3D you were able to search all of the boilerplate comments, I think the last version I had was something like 10.2? Anyway, I now use HIP and the comments are all imbedded into your template and you just select the one you want or write a new one. HIP is not searchable either from what I have seen.
  16. I have had some great CE over the past couple years, they have been from some local providers. One was a window manufacturer(MGM Industries) another was a foundation engineering firm that specializes in sinkholes and another was by a rep for Weyerhaeuser on engineered lumber. They were all free and held through our ASHI chapter and a state home inspector association. ASHI InspectionWorld is another good source for my CE hours.
  17. Is that plumbers strapping?
  18. Thanks all...
  19. It's wrong. But, the water will discharge in it's own special way!
  20. Classic!
  21. Well the real estate agent is calling it a geothermal heat pump, so they must be right. []
  22. They are ground source, the building has 5 wells that were drilled and are used with the system. From what I was told each geothermal heat pump has one well.
  23. I'm seeing more new homes and new buildings with geothermal systems. I have an office building to inspect at the end of the week that has a geothermal system I think it has three systems in it(well type). Does anyone have any information on what to look for or "Red Flags" that I should be looking for? In 20 years I think I have only seen 3 geothermal systems during an inspection. I have already told the client that they would be best served if they can find out who installed the system and have them evaluate the system including the controls. From what I have been able to gleam, most geothermal systems are custom made for the structure including the controls system.
  24. I would call it fairly typical for a new person. We all have many more years of experience with reporting and have learned from others, hopefully this person will acquire the proper reporting skills that are so important in this profession. All in all, it is wordy but I give them credit for not being soft and dancing around the problem.
  25. If you have Quickbooks it offers a neat billing and payment feature. If you send an invoice or a statement via email it goes with an active link that the client can click on. It then takes them to the Intuit website where they can pay the invoice with an electronic check. This cost me fifty cents(.50) no matter the amount. The money is sent directly to my bank account within 24 hours. Marc, it sounds like your person does not want to give you their credit card information. I would tell them that you do not have a way for them to input their information directly from your website. I use Square but have never tried The Square Market, sorry I can't help ya...
