  1. Kolbe and Kolbe, and Marvin make sash kits that will be an easy way to do what you want. The best way to screen these is with a triple track storm. Marvin Integrity makes a fiberglass replacement window (fits inside your existing window) that is paintable and has an integral screen. Marvin is going through something right now. They just closed there NY distribution center and locked out their smaller dealers. I would imagine they are doing similar things in other markets as well. I would recommend Sunrise windows from Temperance, Michigan. They come in a bunch of colors, are available painted, and from the ground will be hard to distinguish from your wood sash with next to zero maintenance.
  2. 34" doors used to be fairly common. They are a little bit harder to find these days, unless you're in Canada. If it's old enough to have a 5/4" thick jamb you very often have enough room for a 36" door in the old rough opening. Swapping out the old jack studs with thinner modern counterparts will gain you up to an inch more.
  3. It's dumb. It's likely unenforceable. Probably why nacho is giving them away. And, do you have to ask for an insurance perspective? I'm sure all of us have received notice from our insurers that a virus isn't physical damage or a covered reason for loss of income. Why would an insurance company care about our virus policies when they don't cover damages caused by viruses?
  4. Legionella in water heaters is a very low risk. One I believe is largely overblown.
  5. Welcome home, Mike. NY closed all nonessential business Friday. It closed real estate brokers down yesterday. I just turned down a 203k on the edge of the Indian reservation citing the RE closures as the reason. To many risks in a high density poor neighborhood for far too little pay. Construction is considered essential and still going. I'm on hold for a week before I get back to work on the big house. 7 weeks into the interior trim. At least 2 weeks to go.
  6. That much? Last I was asked they wanted to pay $50. It was hard not to laugh.
  7. If you really want to know what it is, I suggest hiring someone who actually knows how to collect samples. Look for an EPA certified Lead Dust Sampling Technician. Not suggesting that you have lead, rather that you need a collection protocol more reliable than picking bits out of your vacuum.
  8. This is an interesting take on the situation he posted.
  9. Looks more like LP smartside to me. It moves so much it requires gaps and caulking.
  10. Gas appliances? Your going to get permit approval prior to the NG prohibition?
  11. Fiberglass is a terrible choice for insulation there. It performs poorly in my climate, and we're not as cold as you. Western NY.
  12. These weren't uniform either. If you look at the first picture, the red spacers are 1/8" and the white 1/16". Had to mix and match to keep it square.
  13. (Let's see if this angle helps you figure out what you're looking at. The drain cover has been removed so we don't accidentally grout it into place.
  14. Marc, the wall tile is done. This angle might make more sense. It gets grouted tomorrow.
  15. Marc, on the left is a channel drain. It has metal edging on it to make grouting cleaner and easier. The tiles are cut so the woodgrain pattern continues across the drain. On the right is a metal edge at the end of the shower pan. A large sheet of glass will be sitting there. I don't have a picture of the pan before I tiled. I'll post a pic after its grouted.
  16. 6 weeks on tilework in this house. 4 1/2 baths, 2 custom curbless showers, mudroom and laundry. The 2'x4' wall tile in the master shower was fun.
  17. This is tile craftsmanship. The grain is matched across the drain. 64 man hours, it's ready for grout.
  18. I've toured that factory. Aaron Applegate is an interesting person to talk to.
  19. It's confetti made from recycled newspapers and cereal boxes. The boric acid treatment is a fire retardant and makes it pest resistant. Without the treatment, it's kindling and pet bedding.
  20. Or, I could wear my golf pants.
  21. I'll take that as a challenge for Inspector Road Show.
  22. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the scenery.
  23. Proof that we have overblown radon here, perhaps?
