  1. I have found that both the outlets and switches are wired on the same AFCIs. With the new codes in Texas, all new home bedroom outlets are required to be on AFCI protectors. Robert, http:www.atexinspects.com
  2. I agree, ammonia or chlorine cehmicals. I see a lot of scaling that appears this way with other metals, but it is normally reaching with the salty air around the Texas coast area. Robert, http://www.atexinspects.com
  3. I agree, I found a junction box inside a cabinet a few years ago and the cover was off. The copper wires were black in color and there was a chemical bottle in the cabinet also. The label was off the bottle, but you could tell it contained some corrosive chemicals. There was chemical build-up from leaks around the bottle neck. It appears that the chemicals reacted with the bare copper and caused them to oxidize to a black color. Robert, http://www.atexinspects.com
  4. Sounds like you have several problems. One screw is not adequate to secure the planks. Also the siding should be at least 4 inches off the grade, throwing dirty against it is really asking for it. Check with your local building regulations and consult your states construction commission for your rights and entitlements. At worse, have them repair the siding in accordance with the required manufacture's specs and the local building codes. Robert Welch www.atexinspects.com
  5. I agree with some of the responses above, I think that the house wasn't built with a lean. I think the chimney weight has pulled or caused the wall to lean and the chimney is pulling away from the rest of the exterior stem wall framing. I would have recommended a strustural engineer to evaluate the cause further, but even more so to evauluate the need and cost of repair. Robert Welch http://www.atexinspects.com
  6. I agree with your assessment. If you leave a opening or 1 inch void in the vapor barrier, it seems useless to have the vapor barrier to start with. Robert Welch www.atexinspects.com
  7. Hello All, Brain, Good to see you on the Journal, I work in Texas, but was born and raised in Magee, MS. What can we do about clicl fraud? It seems I'm in a very competitive market here and some people will go to any lengths to slow or stop your internet market. Thanks, Robert
