  1. Dev -

I'm in KC and was the 1st ASHI inspector out here back in 1984. I've served multiple times on their national Board and been President of both ASHI Chapters in Missouri & Kansas.

I'm familiar with the C & D training materials as we've used some in addition to our own thats a little more relative to our area.

I'm also a Trainer for Kansas, NAHI, ASHI, NACHI, etc

I hear your pain and understand your thoughts.

Give me a call & we can talk OR email me.

    Dan,

Tnx for keying on this post for Dev.

    Dev,

This is Dan Bowers. He and I had a long talk this afternoon.

  2. Kurtmit,

Hope you're paying attention to this thread.

We need to pick up our conversation where we left it last.

    ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!!

    Mike

He's in Yellowstone, probably doing weird stuff to beavers.

ASHI sucks for so very many, many reasons. Too bad it would cost me more to remove the ASHI crap from all my stuff than it would be worth. I do get enough biz a year from them to, barely, justify staying a member, but I haven't been asked if I'm ASHI in years.

I would never join today if I was just starting. . .

Same reason I didn't renew my ASHI membership last year. The ROI from the feeds via ASHI linkage kept going down and down. My last year showed only one ASHI referral and that didn't cover the fees.

I used to get 12-15 per year.

  3. My home (Plano, TX) was built in 1982 and had a Zinsco/GTE/Sylvania SEP installed.

It was noted on the inspector's report when we bought the home 7 years ago. (Yes, I tailgated the inspector, but did not officially do it myself for the sake of ethics)

Two summers ago I was in the garage (panel located there) and the 200 amp main popped and about gave me a heart attack. I tried to reset the main and it wouldn't do so. I waited a few minutes and it finally did reset. Then about 10-15 minutes later it tripped again. I waited (again) and reset it and it held.

I called the electrician I work with and he slapped me for not replacing the panel 7-years ago!!

Anyway ... I had him replace the entire panel and got the problem removed.

BTW - my panel was as clean as a whistle on the breakers and buss bars.

Bottom line ... Sleep well, be safe and replace the panel.

  4. Heck John, you've done taken the dash board out of your truck to change the evap, which is frightening to me. The ducts are nothing compared to that. Spend some dough on the brush and extensions, do it yourself, end up saving money and know what you've got.

    Marc

Explain that to my better half, please!

After all I've done to improve our lives while saving money, I still don't know jack according to her.

    JD,

OK ... you set me up!!

Does your wife know jack or maybe, umm, eerr ... oh well ... Never mind!! [;)]

  5. My ten years in the residential side of this business is the same at Kurt's as well.

I did commercial inspections/construction for ~20 years before that with a corporate giant.

As Eric noted ... I've also have been experiencing an overall slowdown since July of 2011. Mostly because I won't do a "drive-by ... aka: cheap" inspection.

  6. Thanks ... I was putting in that product was likely near the original construction date.

Below is the bottom of the A/C condenser that (best I can determine) is dated back to 1993.

Unit was working and had a 20-degree drop across the EVAP coil. I told my client that I was very surprised any of it was even running.

  7. I know, I know it is as old as the hills, but I can't find anything on the multiple charts and other web searches that will provide a clue for the age of this electric furnace.

Labeled as Sun-Dial and manufactured by Square D.

The Square D decoder I have does not match this furnace.

In a house that was built in 1984.

    Any clues ??

  8. Sounds like water "clunking" ... not sure that water clunks, but does sound like water dripping and the echo being amplified by something.

Now ... that is just my set of ears and I do have hearing loss at the high frequencies.

  9. Been with AT&T/Cingular and before. Never any major problems. "T" provides very good service for me in the D/FW market and elsewhere in Texas where I travel.

Was with Verizon for a short spell and had to deep six them in a heartbeat after I had their engineers do coverage studies in my prime areas and they confirmed lack of adequate coverage and no plans to change. That was six years ago so it may have changed since.

I used to fly all over the US when using AT&T and had the spotty coverage problems in NYC, subways, tunnels, street-corners, etc.. But that was also 10-12 years ago when I was still in the corporate world.
