  1. I am Still here Les. Someone needs to shake things up on occasion or it becomes like the Academy Awards. (gee your great) (no your the best)kiss kiss.
  2. I need my bat.ROFLMAO Photos take a long time to load and comment on.Spell check does not work on pics. One thing you are not getting is that they are a suppliment inserted into a written report and not a substitute. Now if I spent that much time dissecting every symbol it would never get done.

    NFL 2007

When is Thomas available for free agency,as Cedric Benson on the bears is to brutal for words. No desire at all. Who knows ,maybe both teams will like cream rise to the top.
  4. Mike I understand what you are saying and it works for you. There are different methods of acheiving the same goal. If this forum consisted of us sending JPEG's all day it would never accomplish much. Different clients have different needs. In Chicago English is becoming the second language.I have no desire to delve that deeply into learning how to write in other (languages). What some people need are lots of diagrams and pics.Even lawyers do not understand much of our insector speak. A normal person could care less if I forget the period at end of sentance, so long as I convey the information they need to make a decision on a potential purchase Notice this reply has no pics. It is about venue and audience.Presentation is important or we would not even bother with report samples. The people whom call me do so because they like what they saw.Same with you ,and everyone else on the board.
  5. Ha Ha I Rest my case.
  6. Thank you for the comments ,and I was not expecting any hold back on TIJ. The reason you post here is that you are left brainers and not fans of images. I intently made a graphically loud color comment to show the opposite of a long worded drawn out technical analysis. There is a middle ground. Please note that in the below case a picture does speak for you. Image Insert: 48.66 KB
  7. Ha Ha I understand what you are saying but I just threw that together and it is not from anything. The general point I was trying to make is how pics and diagrams help the customer understand. Now I am not picking ,but you make my point in that as inspectors we worry so much about being technical that we forget our audience and the whole reason for the report. I bet at least half (just a guess) of the inspectors would do a more tech correct verbage, and at the same time most of the clients would prefer my version. I think you get my point. I also understand where you are coming from as an experienced inspector. I knew the mis spell would get hit as the jest of the format got lost.
  8. You will have fun with this one to. Image Insert: 201.72 KB
  9. So you would not report the vent or any defects and just leave a home owners guide? I guess they could be trained to do their own inspection. Since when is an inspection report an improvise?
  10. WJ I put this as an example of how pics and illustration help for forum purposes. I am the only one to do so for the obvious tear it down with a micro scope reasons. Now if you wish lets all break it down and show how we would have done it correctly. I seem to recall this thread started with the promise of show and tell. Thank goodness I picked an easy subject.
  11. Mike ...I notice no comment from a man not at a loss for words.
  12. Image Insert: 157.03 KB Image Insert: 384 KB What is easy for us is not always easy for an office worker to understand and I feel the above is an example of how pics and illustration help people comprehend.
  13. I guess in the past words vs photos if you wish to refer to it that way would not even be a topic. As you say Brad they work well together when done right. I am just big on presentation as (one) of the ways to please a client.
  14. Some people are left brained and some are right as mentioned above however as Kurt mentioned above ,it's hard to argue with a picture. When typing captions you are forced to be accurate or the picture will catch your lie. I was suprised Mike sort of dis-agreed on the pic subject as I have always heard that when there is a crime ,ten witnesses give ten different discriptions. Now show those people a pic of the crime happening and the story gets more accurate.
  15. Pictures tell a thousand words. Since inspections are visual, digital cameras are in my opinion the most important tool we have, and if I could only bring one that would be it.
  16. Perhaps we need four versions of the report. 1)For the agent ,with soft unscary text 2)For the client with lots of home maintenance tips to show they got their monies worth. 3)For the lawyer a quick brief summary 4)For ourselves to prove what great unpublished writers we are with lots of adjectives and stories.
  17. I have been using this for several months and had no idea there was a Goggle connection till I went to copy a short cut. Jim this is a great photo tool and it is fast . http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php
  18. John... I like that idea.
  19. finger in throat.
  20. Carl I am on your side here so far. Who fixed the leak? Did you recommend a pro? If so he should have seen the other leak when he fixed the first. Makes sense if you take the time to think about what I just said.
  21. Well Chris ,the camera is visual.(sorry I could not resist. I suppose the bright side is it will stop some of the cheap inspectors(I hope). Not to many will enter the field on a whim ,with start up costs which include a $ 10,000 tool.
  22. People are concerned with moisture and mold. That's just the way it is. Nothing we can do about underpriced guys that do not get it. Though Capone might have a few words for them if he was still around.
  23. I am suprised nobody caught the part about seeing through walls.
  24. Here is a link to a article in todays Chicago Sun Times. They interviewed Will Decker, the former president of my NACHI chapter. I have referred a couple jobs in the last ten days to Decker, because I don't have one of these. Next month Decker is giving a 3 CE course which I may take. To read the entire article, click here.
  25. It is not uncommon to see them on a double shutoff with compression fittings .But Ditto with the above. I guess losing hot water to the sink would be a good reminder to fix the dishwasher though.
