I'm another Durham person with an Apollo in a friend's townhouse. We replaced the water heater with a State a few years back, and I made a new pan for the evaporator a couple years back. This year. The AC ran for a month and then not so much. Repair folks added some R-22 and said they found a leak at the condenser and fixed it. The unit cooled for a day and then the air off of the condenser stopped being hot and the line at the evaporator in the attic got frozen. Refrigerant gone. They checked at the evaporator and said they could hear a leak (after adding a little refrigerant). Started to offer to take the evaporator to the shop, pressurize it to find the leak, and try to fix it. Then noticed it was an apollo and said that would be a waste of his time and my friend's money. But said if i could find an evaporator that would fit, he would put it in. So, I wondered a few things: Does this sound reasonable? Is there a replacement out there that will fit an apollo hb 3024 1G ? If she has to put a heat pump in, does it make any sense to build the apollo heating radiator & pump into the new handler to use as auxiliary for days below 25 degrees? Could I take this evaporator off and fix it? Warren
