Minnesota weather this year is ruff, ice dams forming all over, we had to put ice melt in socks and put them over the ice dams so they would make a channels o the water would escape, but the only ice melt that we could find was sodium chloride ( aka rock salt), if i have that on there for a couple weeks will it hurt he roof

Everybody uses it, i filled nylons with a ice melt with sodium chrloride (ROCK SALT) in it to melt a channel , i hope the salt does not damage the roof, does any body know about that, wanted to use calcium chloride but nobody around had any left
