  1. Great posts. I agree. Thanks for sharing.
  2. ... Uh, yolk? It's yoke, right?
  3. Painted while wet? Until I saw the dryer vent, I thought you'd snuck up and taken pics of the siding job we did on the backside of out church building ...
  4. My basic electronics training kept me going through my years on submarines (I let the electrician's mates deal with the voltage/current/phasing my equipment used.) In my civilian career I had to learn about three phase five wire wye supplies for the equipment we worked on, and, before I left that field, I was traveling around the country doing power quality surveys at hospitals where our systems were installed. I never worried about sngle phase elect. much (though I did bring some of our test equipment home to scope out the house I was leasing back then (two wire, the only ground was at the service disconnect/panel) --- Since I learned 3 phase, my somewhat autistic mind handles it better when I think of my household single phase as two phase, 180 degrees out .... (edited to remove the typos I caught --- I don't like this laptop keyboard --- not forgiving at all)
  5. So there's no check valve, and those folk were blowin' smoke, or the check valve's kaput, and those folk were blowing smoke ...
  6. I used to carry one like that with me, but could never bring myself to trust it. I tossed it, and just use my multimeter whenever possible.
  7. MMDDYY with RPT, INV, etc., tadked on at the end. Each document is saved in open document format and PDF. Stored in folders marked by year.
  8. Water hammer arrestor, I think.
  9. Does jumping from plant kingdom scientific nomenclature to plant anatomy constitute thread drift?
  10. I dump a bag of sand on the hardwood floors and do a soft shoe....
  11. And politics... I was thinking of the lesser used definition of religion: something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience, and yes AGW warming politics is, to me, included within that definition.
  12. This is what happens when folks discuss religion on forums like this....
  13. thread drift .... I've been in my house for 20 years --- The flex vent has never been cleaned. I replaced it once when we moved the washer / dryer to the basement, and I replaced it again when we replaced the dryer. ("clean the vent?" he asked sheepishly)
  14. I think that this is one of the best responses I've ever read here ....
  15. That must be an improvement from the 60's ... When we were kids, we accidentally learned that we could instantly knock our streetlights out for about ten minutes by aiming a camera flash attachment at them and firing. We used the resulting darkness for, uh, . . . . oh, never mind.
  16. That's not debate. I feel a Monty Python skit coming on ....
  17. Every time I see the heading for this topic, I think, "What's the NCAA got to do with home inspection? And, "Will this help or hurt the SEC?" I know. I need to crawl under someone's house or something....
  18. It is my nature to be a smartass.... I'm nearly 60 and able to resist the the urge more often these days ... Just not this time.
  19. I find the amount of 'passive voice' text in this thread alone interesting....
  20. OK, I don't understand the reason for your post....
  21. I've had these gutters on my house for over ten years now --- never had to clean them, and they're still performing great.... down here in NW Georgia, I don't have to worry about freeze/thaw stuff, though...
  22. I was riding submarines then, and I concur... the ratio of coke users to non-users was amazingly high --- especially in the sonar shack ---
  23. Thanks for the link to the piltron document. Reading it brought me back to the days when I had a real job.... ... after reading the source material provided, the answer is, as stated before --- electricity.
  24. Agreed. That was just a handy photo from a recent inspection. 'Round here, what we refer to as yellowjackets live underground. They invade our picnics, yes, but become really aggressive when we mow over their homes. Funny. I don't take the dryer sheets with me when I mow....
  25. apparantly. I heard it as an old (new?) wives tale, and tried it. Seems to work. They don't like the scent, I guess.
