  1. That's a pretty crappy upgrade policy IMO [:-thumbd]. I upgraded a client from 2003 today for $150.00 and that gives him access to our updates for the next year. On another note Microsoft has made a developers life an installation nightmare with Vista and Windows 7. Apparently they had the best minds at Microsoft come up with this UAC stupidity... they completely missed the keep it simple stupid thing. I have been working on our installs for Windows 7 and 64 bit for about two months now! I know the UAC very well now and can honestly say without any doubt that it was the biggest blunder since Windows ME! I wish I could bill them for all the extra support they have also cost us! We have offered free support for years to all our clients even if they didn't have a current subscription... unfortunately that may have to change... grrr. Not that I want to give my competitors any support, but you are a TIJ member... just turn off the UAC! Your software will probably run fine just like it did on your XP machine and you will not be giving them another $300.00. If that doesn’t help and you decide to bail... we also have a Pocket PC version included with the purchase of our software (double your update fee for the full program). Dominic's home inspector pro software is even less but he has no Pocket PC software. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc. inspectexpress.com Sales: 1-888-739-4033
  2. You guys are really being too hard on him! His new line of Non-Destructive Testing Equipment should be in every home inspectors toolbox. You should really just invest in his new line of inspection tools and quit complaining… then you’ll be sure not to miss anything! Official Mike Holmes Testing Equipment Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  3. Congratulations Jim. Michael
  4. The big difference here was the separation process before making the product. They usually just grind it all up and make the product out of that, but the wax is never wanted and the inside of the cane isn't wanted in this application. Yes it was something more than simply a wall sheathing it was also for structure... made for developing countries where there is very little wood. Michael
  5. They had a vid of building a small house with the board but it doesn't seem to be working. Ya... Chad like you I've got my hands dirty. Michael
  6. You probably won't find it in any American home. Just another from my odd project list. Michael
  7. I was inspired to post this after seeing the vid from the fridge eating machine. This one doesn't eat fridges but you wouldn't want to fall inside it either. A few years ago (while working as a Millwright) we built this equipment and then spent a couple of months setting up the plant in Mexico. The vid is from the plant. Some might find the end of the vid quite interesting. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  8. [:-censore [:-censore [:-censore I better not say anything... I don't want to have too join ranters anonymous later... [:-taped] [:-taped] [:-taped] Hey, did you ever notice how UAC is almost the same as MAC except it’s like the M gets turned upside down? Maybe MAC secretly infiltrated Microsoft and helped create the UAC? Pretty clever… eh! MAC has to be behind it... you know what they say "follow the money"! Oh well I guess there is no point wondering why I need the files for my software spread all over the users computer... I will go back to try and figure out where they all need to go to make Vista and Windows 7 happy. [:-yuck] see I'm starting... [:-taped]
  9. I have seen this work on other sites like the programming forums I visit. But with that it is always a problem and a solution and the correct solution can be identified in the reply (usually a line or two of code). The other type is where you count and say how many found a reply useful. I don't think that works that well here as this isn't always a one reply that answers all questions. I would more inclined to make a MVP status so you knew who you should listen to. The veterans here try and discourage the members from giving out misleading information. If you are giving advice here that is incorrect... well... you will be corrected and it may not be nice! Besides you learn more having to wade through the replies. Programming it isn't that hard (more than a hit counter though), but I can totally understand where Jim is coming from as we don't want members that are still learning giving weight to the wrong conclusions. 10. Installing and Running Inspect Express V3 On Windows 7 (tested with 64 bit also) Windows 7 Installation Instructions: (Microsoft Word 2000/2002/XP/2003/2007 Required) For Word 2007 users the first time you run Inspect Express you should see a bar below the toolbar with "Security Warning: Macros have been disabled" and an Options button. Click this Options button and select 'Trust all documents from this publisher' and click okay. After trying to run INSPECTEXPRESSâ„¢ on your Windows 7 operating system you may receive an error that the program cannot access the database. Follow these steps to get the software running correctly: Open Windows Control Panel. Select 'User Accounts and Family Safety'. Type "UAC" into the search box on the top right. Select 'Change User Account Control settings'. Select 'Change the slider to Never Notify (all the way to the bottom)'. Click 'OK' and restart your computer when prompted. Inspect Express V3 will not run in Office 2010 at all, you will need to upgrade to version 4 of Inspect Express. The UAC will not allow editing of the database because it is located in the program files folder. A new version of Inspect Express (V4) will be out this month to address this issue. You DO NOT need to run in compatability mode. The UAC is what causes most problems on Vista and Windows 7. Microsoft knew this would happen and most people just get fed up and turn it off to run their old software and others just switch to a MAC. Call if you have any problems and we can get you running. 11. The new PictureDrop will probably be ready in the next week or two. I will need a couple of victims to help test the deployment[:-wiltel]. The new home inspection software will probably be ready in early January. It won't have as many of the features as the old version to start with but is very cool the way it works. If you are using Word 2007 already you know what I mean by dynamic. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  12. Boy, there's one thatll have everybody arguing until the cows come home. There isn't going to be any question about that this time. As you can see from the screen shots there will be a whole layer removed from both editing the document and managing the stored data. Yes... and you can easily edit the document in a real word processor when your done [:-tong2] and you know where the pictures end up if someone prints it [:-tong2] and... and... etc... etc... Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  13. Thanks for the feedback Kevin! How about a sneak peak of the next version??? I don't like my competitors knowing what I'm up to so i'm not going to go into to many details yet. First we have a new PictureDrop version almost ready to go and of course this will also be integrated with InspectExpess: Click to Enlarge 56.51 KB We use MS Outlook for contacts, appointments etc. you can do all of that from there. We do a mail merge in our estimating software that might help though. The new version is easy to edit, drag and drop, copy a system, sub system, add a textbox, dropdown etc..... Click to Enlarge 97.61 KB That sounds like a bug... it should remember the last directory and always open up there if it still exists until you change it again. I will have a look at it. Here is a shot of the new version... the icons and graphics will change a bit. This should be the the fastest and absolute easiest inspection software. Click to Enlarge 50.3 KB One problem guys... the new stuff only runs in Word 2007 or newer... time to upgrade? Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  14. Chad if you right click one of the observations and then click the Manage button on the form that opens up you will see this form below and you can easily edit all comments on the form by clicking down the list on the right. You can also use what I call the data dump under the settings menu... View Edit Database Comments. From that form you can dump the entire observation library to the page... edit as much as you want and then use the same form to suck it back into the database. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  15. Hi Tom, The active counter isn't broken you are just seeing the count for all the active topics... including Mike's class and the private staff forums. We looked at a sync for them a while back and it was another big hit on the database so we left it. Maybe there is another way... later. No orange planned for Halloween this year. Michael
  16. Yuck! No maroon and blue do not match I agree! I was really wanting some more feedback on the page width before I finished the menu at the top (the red was temp). It was a pain to get the menu right with the shadow on the sides and this is for the fixed width. If I use the floating width (resize to monitor) I will have a bit more work again. There are a few pages that don't fit the design but I think that is only for the mods and admins with the extra buttons pushing out the table. Don't worry about the color just yet... what about the width? Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  17. Joe can you try View... Zoom... Reset and let me know if that fixed it? I tried it in FireFox and didn't see a problem... and with the large amount it is over on your screen that is the only thing I can think of? Thank you for your feedback! It is very much appreciated! Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  18. Not sure where you found that wimpy gnome... we have Texas size Gnomes up here. This pic is from a few miles up the road: Click to Enlarge 41.31 KB Joe the table is set to 990 pixels so that should leave 17 pixels on each side? Not sure why you would still have to scroll? No for the BlackBerry although I have thought about a version... this isn't going to be it. Michael
  19. I just want to update the look and layout a bit using some png's instead of the gif's. The side bars or white space will be filled in a bit. Just a change for now... Michael
  20. The resizing was mainly for users with smaller than 1024 monitors and I'm thinking those days are pretty much in the past? I'm assuming everyone has at least a 1024 resolution monitor now... Jim I wasn't sure if you liked it better before or not? Give me some feedback on this guys. BTW: The white space won't be white anymore. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
  21. I agree broken links do not help your ranking... I use a program that has been around for a while to check the links (Xenu's Link Sleuth). What I like about it is you can time out on some sites and check just those sites later from your list instead of restarting the whole search again. This might be better considering the amount of links on your pages. http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.

  24. From my research Google has never used the keywords meta tag... by the time Google started they had already figured out that the tag was a complete waste of time (stuffed with misleading garbage). There is a great article on the history of the keywords meta tag on the link below: http://searchengineland.com/meta-keywor ... ines-12099
  25. This one is free and works pretty good: http://www.domain-pop.com/backlink-check.php I'm sure there are others. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc.
